Makeup Favorites

makeup0 bag

Recently I’ve been changing up my makeup routine and trying to find staples that are always a go to. I am typically pretty adventurous with trying makeup, and so that’s led me to a big collection of things I love but I don’t really have a go-to routine so much.

it cosmetics

Base: I’m really trying not to wear as much makeup to work anymore, I like things that I can throw on my face quickly and head out – The It Cosmetics CC Cream¬†has become a favorite. It has SPF and is lightweight.

Concealer: I have a very blue under eye tone so I like to use two different concealers. I promise this takes no extra time! One is the Color Corrector concealer from Sephora. The other is the Urban Decay Naked Skin Concealer. Those two together will have you looking fresh any day!

Heavy Duty Concealer: This is not an everyday thing, but if I wake up with a breakout I pull out the Dermablend Cover Creme. This stuff is life changing, seriously.powder

Powder: I love loose powder’s but lately I’ve been doing my makeup in the train so I like the Makeup Forever pressed powder. It works perfect for setting.

Bronzer: For Christmas I got the NARS Laguna Bronzer, I know this has been a favorite for a while but I had never tried it! Now that I have this is a must-have.nars eyeshadow.JPG

Shadow: I normally like to put a little bit of a shimmer shadow on and then use my bronzer to define my crease. The palette I love is the NARS Silk road. I literally use it everyday and always love the look.

Eyeliner: The liner I use now is the Rimmel Pencil Liner in black, I’ve been purchasing this off and on for years and I like how it looks less harsh than my liquid for everyday (Fav Liquid is Kat Von D Tattoo Liner).

Mascara: I use the combo of the L’oreal primer and then the L’oreal Voluminous Lashes in Carbon Black.

Final SealSetting Spray: Alright this is very important. I honestly recommend this product to everyone and you need it too if you’re working all day and want you’re makeup to stay on. It’s the Ben Nye Makeup Setting Spray. This has honestly changed my life.

I hope this gives you some inspiration to try any new products! Let me know what you think. ūüôā

From Manhattan to Boston

Lately I have really l enjoyed reading posts about more intimate parts of my favorite bloggers lives, i.e. Dani Austin, Brighton Keller, The Darling Detail, Amelia Liana, etc. And while I am definitely not comparable to them I would really like to put out the content that they have exemplified. So today I’m covering why I picked my life up and moved to a new city, where I basically knew no one.

IMG_3185

Reasons Why

One those questions I got asked every time I told someone I was leaving was, Why leave NYC? There were SO many reasons why I wanted to leave, but it all boils down to me being unhappy there. Since I was 14 I remember saying I want to move to New York after college and work in a fancy office building and walk to Starbucks every morning. That was not the reality. I moved to the Upper West Side for my first apartment, and while I loved the neighborhood, I was so far away from the hustle and bustle that it didn’t really feel the way I had always wanted. So, I made the leap to move to Mid-town East, before I say much else, this was probably one of the worst decisions I’ve made in life. The apartment¬†was pretty and newly renovated and in an amazing location, just two blocks from Grand Central. But never the less, I grew to hate it there. It was noisy, things kept breaking in our apartment, we had mice, my apartment was the size of a shoe box and pretty much bankrupted me. I feel like I learned a lot from the 7 months I lived in that apartment however, I now know what type of environment I thrive in and have moved on for the better.

IMG_2825

Why Boston?

This one is pretty easy. While some people have thought of it as random, it was probably the easiest decision to make out of the whole process. I love the city, it’s a lot smaller and cleaner and it’s beautiful while still being close to home. I don’t think I’m ready to move out of a city environment yet and so I made Boston my next stop!

IMG_3183

Transition

I got so many comments from friends and family saying I did it so fast and that it was so easy for me to change my life so drastically. I can totally see why it may look that way, but boy is that not true. Between finding a job in a place three hours away to trying to find someone to sublet my place. I can honestly say that there was a solid two weeks where I was eating maybe a granola bar a day because I was too stressed to eat or sleep. I like to think of myself as determined when I am really invested in something, since I felt like my overall well-being was probably the most important thing to worry about, I made moving my number one priority.

IMG_2772

Some tips I’ve Gained¬†

  1. Use a recruiter – while they are known for being a pain, let’s be honest, they know the job market way better in this new city than you do. My recruiter got me a solid amount of interviews which gave me some options and eventually led me to my new job.
  2. Craigslist – I know people always rag on it but I truly wouldn’t have found a sub-letter without it, just make sure you make a detailed post and be selective about who you follow up on. Plus, it’s NYC, my best friend found her apartment listed on craigslist!
  3. Lean on your family – and also your close friends, I was going a little crazy during this whole process and there were more than a few tears shed, without the support of my parents and friends I would have crashed and burned.
  4. Reach out! This one more applies to when you’ve got everything set and you are moving soon, I am not the most outgoing person but if you’re somewhere where you don’t know many people, really take the time to go through anyone you may know in the area. Even if it’s your cousin’s best friend’s sister, she could still be your future bestie!
  5. Focus on you – you’re making this move for yourself, so take the time to do fun things around your new city that you like, even by yourself. Decorate your room so it makes you feel at home. Just get comfortable, that will make you feel like you have a safe haven when your navigating this new adventure.

Overall I’ve been in Boston over a month so it’s still very new but I am LOVING it. Can’t wait to see what is to come.

Favorite NYC Spots

sam_0413.jpg

Having just moved out of Manhattan to Boston, I feel like this is the perfect time to reflect on my favorite spots. When I lived there I was¬†constantly googling places to go and there’s not much out there that isn’t repeating what has already been written about, so here’s my favorite spots for you all to check out!

Screen Shot 2017-03-27 at 8.32.49 PM

I’m going to start off with my absolute favorite thing to do on the weekends in NYC: Brunch!

  1. Hotel Chantelle
  2. Jacob’s Pickles
  3. Caroll Place
  4. Three of Cups
  5. Sotto 13

I don’t want to talk too much about each but each of these has a great brunch deal and great ambiance, whether you’re looking for a more upscale bunch (Hotel Chantelle and Sotto 13) or just a great deal (Caroll Place and Three of Cups). All of these should be added to your regular brunch spots. The Chocolate filled mini donuts at Sotto 13…OMG. Jacob’s Pickles is a must if you’re living in Manhattan, its the best homestyle brunch, you’ll be full for days.

Screen Shot 2017-03-27 at 8.29.29 PM.png

My absolute favorite dinner spot is Fig and Olive, there are a few locations throughout Manhattan and honestly I have never a meal that was other than exceptional. My fav thing on the menu? The toasts tasting appetizer.

As far as hidden gems go I have to give a shout to Astoria Seafood. It really doesn’t look like much but once you go you’ll see how delicious it is. It’s in a quiet area of Astoria Queens and you have to put your name in and wait a little pretty much every time. Make sure your whole party is there! Then once inside you go to the back and pick out fresh seafood on ice and put in a bag. After paying for the seafood you present it to the chefs and tell them how you want it prepared! It makes for an amazing dining experience. The seafood is so fresh, I typically get scallops prepared in garlic and butter and then some sort of fish. You can also order a family style greek salad and garlic bread. Everything will be super delicious, trust me.

Favorite place for a night out? I have a few spots. I feel that everyone should try the cult favorites like Up and Down, Beauty Bar, Houston Hall, Hair of the Dog, etc they’re all fun but can be really crowded. Personally I like to just sit, drink and chat. I also love a good dance floor when I’m in the mood. For dancing, I like The Red Lion Inn, there’s usually a live performer and the drink deals can be great! As far as more quiet bars, I love E-Bar in the UWS (great first date spot) as well as Death and Co. which is more of a speakeasy vibe. Another great place to have some fun in Fiddlesticks in the West Village, while it’s typically crowded, it’s always a good time.

I hope this helps any of you tackle the thousands of spots in NYC!

The office style guide: Interview Ready

So I feel like my blog has kind of gotten away from my original view¬†for it; to provide everyday looks for a casual office setting. In an effort to try and get back to office-styling, I’m sharing some styling tips for an interview outfit!

The biggest piece of advice I get is to not wear purple or red to an interview, not sure why but those colors are shown to make people angry or unhappy. So stay away! I tend to lean towards a neutral palette with some great accessories as accents. I have been complemented on my necklace or shoes at an interview and I think that gives them a lasting memory of you in their mind.

As I’ve been shopping I’ve seen great pieces from J. Crew and Anne Taylor that would be stylish while still looking professional.

I love these shoes I actually was going to get them in the spring but the velvet is gorgeous! And they are a great way to add a touch of style to your interview outfit.

Velvet Tied-Up Heels

This would be great for an interview at a more edgy company where you can really show your personal style!

leather-skirt

A-Line Skirt

banana-dress

A dress for me is always the easiest outfit for a interview. You can do a fabulous heel with it and look super classy. I love the bell sleeves on this one and the flattering silhouette.

Flutter Sleeve Dress

These are some statement accessories that will get you noticed but at the same time don’t look over the top with a professional outfit.

Druzy Drops // Star Tassel Necklace // Double Layer Chain Necklace

blouse

Just purchased this and I adore it! So flattering.

Silk Blouse

fringe-trim-blazer

THIS¬†blazer! For me blazers are tough, I find they make me look way to boxy and don’t flatter my body type. This one reminds me of the classic Chanel tweed. It would also add flare to a plain skirt or pants bottom.

Fringe Trim Blazer

tie-neck-blouse

I just bought this recently and love it’s versatility. It’s very office appropriate and I love the bow.

Piped Tie Neck Blouse

cambel-trouser

These, while boring, are amazing pants. I love the stretchy fabric of J. Crew’s pants and these are the ultimate work pants.

Campbell Trouser

printed-pants

If you’re feeling a little adventurous, a printed trouser is a great addition to your work wear. These ones are so cute and I love the cropped style.

Floral Pants

I hope this has given you all some office style inspiration. No one needs to be wearing the boring old black suit-white shirt anymore! Now you’re ready to take on any interview!

Lets talk Lip Stains

kiss

I love lipsticks, it’s a great way to give life or color to your look. However, I am not the kind of person who would remember to reapply all day or touch it up. When I discovered lip stains it was like a godsent! Since then I’ve tried a range of them, here 5 of my absolute favs:

  1. Kat Von D – Everlasting Liquid Lipstick ($20) Mauve nude, this is my favorite stain, I don’t have a lot because of the price, but its definitely worth it for a staple color.
  2. Sephora – Cream Lip Stain¬†($14) in Red flame and Cherry blossom – This stain is one I really do love, the only complaint I have is that it won’t stay through eating and drinking, and you NEED to put chapstick on before you have it on. Besides that the colors are super pigmented and gorgeous on.
  3. Rimmel – Provocolips¬†($7) ¬†in Berry seductive, this lip stain is a full on lip stain. I have to legitimately scrub it off. For me, I haven’t ¬†liked many of the shades but if I’m in for a night of eating and drinking, this is my go to. It really is kiss proof too!
  4. The Balm – Meet Matt(e) Hughes¬†($17) in Charming. I got this as a free sample in my ipsy bag and loved the shade. It also has a really great scent and it’s super creamy!
  5. Revlon РColorstay Overtime ($11) Forever Pink and Ultimate Wine. This one has been a staple for me since college. My best friend introduced me and I almost always have one in my bag. Good all around stain.

Luxury for Less

Lately I’ve been seeing a lot of high end classics and trends¬†copied at a much more affordable price. I thought I’d gather them all together so we can all share in the trends.

Gucci Loafers: Princetown Slipper  ($595)

Steven by Steve Madden: Slip on Flats ($89)

I love the look of these slip on loafers but I definitely can’t spend five hundred plus on them! The velvet is gorgeous on these Steven ones.

For Love and Lemons Dress: Midi Dress ($119) Lace Dress  ($80) Vivian Mini Dress ($268)

Forever 21 Dresses: Mesh Lace Dress ($24.90) Eyelash Lace Set ($24.90) Floral Lace Bodycon (34.90)

The For Love and Lemons dresses are super popular right now and so is the mesh and lace trend. Thankfully you can find it for much cheaper at a variety of stores.

Stuart Weitzman: Highland Boots ($798) // Steve Madden Over the Knee Boots: Emotions ($100!)

Chloe Bag:Marcie Mini ($795) // Forever 21 Bag: Tassel Crossbody ($22.90)

 Payless booties:Buckle Boot ($29.99) // Givenchy Boots ($1,395)

I have always loved those Givenchy booties but I almost love the Payless ones more! It’s a great way to do the trend in an understated way.

Burberry Trench: The Kensington ($1,795) // Forever 21 Tench: Classic Trench ($42)

I added this one in because although not as trendy, it’s always a classy staple to have in your wardrobe. And I know I want the Burberry one, but the Forever 21 one is MUCH cheaper and just as beautiful.

I hope this gave some inspiration to hunt for the trends elsewhere!
