Makeup Favorites

Recently I’ve been changing up my makeup routine and trying to find staples that are always a go to. I am typically pretty adventurous with trying makeup, and so that’s led me to a big collection of things I love but I don’t really have a go-to routine so much.

it cosmetics

Base: I’m really trying not to wear as much makeup to work anymore, I like things that I can throw on my face quickly and head out – The It Cosmetics CC Cream¬†has become a favorite. It has SPF and is lightweight.

Concealer: I have a very blue under eye tone so I like to use two different concealers. I promise this takes no extra time! One is the Color Corrector concealer from Sephora. The other is the Urban Decay Naked Skin Concealer. Those two together will have you looking fresh any day!

Heavy Duty Concealer: This is not an everyday thing, but if I wake up with a breakout I pull out the Dermablend Cover Creme. This stuff is life changing, seriously.powder

Powder: I love loose powder’s but lately I’ve been doing my makeup in the train so I like the Makeup Forever pressed powder. It works perfect for setting.

Bronzer: For Christmas I got the NARS Laguna Bronzer, I know this has been a favorite for a while but I had never tried it! Now that I have this is a must-have.nars eyeshadow.JPG

Shadow: I normally like to put a little bit of a shimmer shadow on and then use my bronzer to define my crease. The palette I love is the NARS Silk road. I literally use it everyday and always love the look.

Eyeliner: The liner I use now is the Rimmel Pencil Liner in black, I’ve been purchasing this off and on for years and I like how it looks less harsh than my liquid for everyday (Fav Liquid is Kat Von D Tattoo Liner).

Mascara: I use the combo of the L’oreal primer and then the L’oreal Voluminous Lashes in Carbon Black.

Final SealSetting Spray: Alright this is very important. I honestly recommend this product to everyone and you need it too if you’re working all day and want you’re makeup to stay on. It’s the Ben Nye Makeup Setting Spray. This has honestly changed my life.

I hope this gives you some inspiration to try any new products! Let me know what you think. ūüôā

Beauty Wishlist

makeup

This time of year a lot of new products are coming out or generating a lot of buzz that I just can’t wait to get my hands on.

Charlotte Tilbury Luxury Palette in The Dolce Vita

I’ve never purchased anything but Charlotte Tilbury but I’ve heard so many great things about the line. I definitely have more than one product from her that I want but this eyeshadow palette just looks too beautiful to pass up.

Klorane Soothing and Relaxing Patches

I had a sample of these and they really do soothe like they say! Ive really been getting into eye patches and have to pick up more of these.

Clinique Beyond Perfecting Foundation Concealer

I saw Amelia Liana apply this on her youtube channel and it looked so flawless, need to try it! It also seems like a great two in one product to use on the go.

Anastasia Beverly Hills Liquid Lipstick

Also an Amelia Liana favorite, but I have been wanting a new liquid lipstick. The shade Soft Beige looks super pretty.

Albeit Contour Kit

I just hit pan on my Kat Von D contour palette and that one was a little bit too dark for me. This one looks perfect! I love the peachy tones and the gold packaging is so cute.

Artis Oval 7 Brush

These brushes have been on my wishlist for a while. But at $60 a brush, I haven’t been able to justify it. A girl can dream though!

Eyeko Black Magic Mascara

I’ve been in a mascara rut lately, I can’t find out that I’ve liked since Too Faced Better than Sex – but that one was constantly flaking onto the skin below my eyes. After much research, I take my mascara very seriously, I think I’ve found the mascara my lashes need. Will let you know if I love it!

Shape Tape Contour Concealer

This concealer is CONSTANTLY sold out, I’m not even entirely sure why it’s so special but I watched youtube Mallory Ervin apply it in a recent video and it looked amazing. Whenever I can get my hands on it, I’m going to pounce.

Let me know what your current beauty favorites are!

Spring Break Essentials

palm trees

With Spring Break season in full affect, you can never have too many suggestions on what to bring to make your vacation go off without a hitch.

For me, I always over pack because I’m worried I won’t have enough outfits or I’ll need certain outfits for certain things¬†or a bathing suit will get ruined so I bring a few extra…let’s face it I just pack WAY too much.

So here are my essentials you need that will have you well prepared:

  1. A Multi-Purpose Cover Up – this is key, if you bring a cover up that can also be acceptable as a dress for lunch or dinner, your wardrobe can be set for that day and your packing is cut in half! This versatile black dress is from Revolve Clothing)

coverup

  1. Makeup Bag full of¬†must haves – for me on vacation this would be a BB or CC cream (with sunscreen! – It Cosmetics CC Cream), Makeup Forever waterproof concealer, waterproof mascara (I love the L’oreal Voluminous Waterproof Mascara), a great waterproof gel liner ¬†(Bobbi Brown Long Wear Gel Eyeliner) and a highlighter than can double as eye shadow, Que¬†Jacklyn Hill’s Champagne Pop.
  2. Beach Bag РI always use the Scout Bags at the beach because you want a durable bag that can withstand the sand and is waterproof, these are perfect and come in so many patterns.

scout

  1. Hat Рperfect for a cute photo opp and to shade you from the scorching sun!
  2. Reusable Water bottle – my Swell Water Bottle is just about glued to me in my everyday life and I definitely wouldn’t forget it on a vacation, it keeps your water cool in that hot sun all day long.

swell

  1. Hair Tamer – this is crucial to my beach outings, my hair will dry frizzy and crazy if I go for a swim in the ocean. I always bring these two products in my beach bag to tame my mane. (Johnson and Johnson No More Tangles, Fekkai Brilliant Glossing Cream)
  2. Day to Night flip flops (try TKEES and Sam Edelman)

tkees flip flops8. Reversible Swimsuit (Maaji Swimwear has amazing reversible bikinis that are great quality and so cute!)

maaji reversible 1maaji reversible 2

9.SUNSCREEN and/or tanning oil

10.Jean shorts (My favorites are American Eagle and Carmar Denim)

11. Your Favorite Sunnies – Of course!

And my number one tip for spring break – get a gel manicure before you go, your nails won’t get messed up from sand, ocean water or any other shenanigans that go on!

Have a great trip and Happy Reading!

5 Foundations that ACTUALLY cover your acne

flawless

I’ve had my fair share of acne struggles since I was 14 and had a minefield in between my eyebrows. Through many phases of trial and error I have found some really great foundations; high end and drugstore that really do cover those pesky bumps. I feel like any tips I have picked up along the way should be shared because honestly, pimples are just the worst.

double wear

1.Est√©e Lauder Double Wear Stay‚ÄĎin‚ÄĎPlace Makeup¬†$38.00

2.Revlon Color Stay Whipped Creme Makeup $12.99

3. It Cosmetics Your Skin But Better CC Cream with SPF 50 $38.00

4. Clinque Even Better Makeup SPF 15 $27.00

5. Kat Von D Lock-it Tatoo Foundation $35.00

My all time favorite is the¬†Est√©e¬†Lauder Makeup, it does not look caked on and when applied with a wet beauty blender it creates a flawless look, truly covering any redness or acne you may have. It also really does last all day, take it from someone who puts on her makeup at 7 am and doesn’t take it off until at least 7 pm.

Whats great about the It Cosmetics and Clinque foundations is that they have coverage as well as an SPF to help protect your skin. The Even Better foundation I have been wearing for years and has a great build-able coverage look, while still looking very natural. The It Cosmetics is a new discovery for me but a little bit will cover any mark you have on your face, who can complain about that?

Now, lets not forget about the Revlon Color Stay Whipped foundation. This was the first foundation I had ever tried and I’ve been repurchasing it ever since, it gives such a matte full coverage look and its half the price. I’ve had friends ask me why my skin looks so good while wearing this foundation! It’s definitely a staple in my collection. The only reason I wouldn’t recommend wearing it everyday would be that its pretty thick. That’s not to say that it feels heavy on the skin, but for me its more of a night out foundation or if I know I’ll need my makeup to hold up for 24 hours.

The Kat Von D foundation is very similar to the Revlon one in coverage and feel on the skin, however you will need way less, one pump of this pretty much covers my whole face and has great staying power.

Skincare Routine

As we move into colder weather and away from constant humidity I find myself moisturizing more and moving away from my oil control products to ones that create a more dewy glow.

For the most part my skincare has the same amount of products in it, I just use lighter ones in the hotter months and more intensive ones when it’s colder.

As I have previously mentioned I start off by removing my makeup at night with my Clinique Take the Day Off Cleansing Balm (Click here to read my product spotlight!). This gets every stitch of makeup off so my skin can be reading for cleansing.

cleanser

In the winter I like using a cream cleanser that’s just really gentle and leaves my face with a really clean feeling. My go-to is Fresh’s Soy Face Cleanser ($38.00). It’s got a subtle calming scent and can be used on all skin types.

Next I grab my toner. I’ve used quite a few of these, some help with acne, some are for brightening but overall I like ones that calm redness. I use Neutrogena’s Alcohol Free Toner¬†($7.99), it helped balance out my skin, honestly, when I haven’t used it I notice a more uneven skin tone and the texture of my skin is more haphazard (oily in some places, dry in others).

april-shopping-haul-14

Before going to bed I grab a face oil or an intensive night cream and then I use my eye cream (which is actually just Eucerin’s Aquaphor healing ointment!). Aquaphor ($14.29) was suggested to me by one of my friend’s older sisters who does makeup freelance. She said it’s what all makeup artists tell their clients to get a really hydrated eye area, and I love it! I just keep a big tub next to my bed so I never forget.

skincare

My favorite night oil is Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Oil Concentrate ($46.00), I swear by this stuff when it gets colder and the air is super dry. It doesn’t give me any excess oil and brightens up my skin. Lastly, my night cream, which I’ve been using all throughout college and still use, it never fails to disappoint. Aveeno Positively Radiant Night Cream¬†($12.72), This cream makes my skin baby soft and actually helps control my oil.

I would love to hear any suggestions for great products to keep skin hydrated and glowing!

Pamper Yourself

relax

Who wouldn’t want to? I normally do these things every week on Sunday or in this case, Monday (I love a long weekend) and I find them really relaxing, maybe because they make me feel prepared for the week and that soothes me. Curling up with a good book just after a bath and treating yourself is the perfect way to pave the way for a great work week.

Starting off with a warm bath is good for your skin and really relaxes your muscles, I’ve been traveling almost every weekend and winding down in a bath really cures those stiff limbs. I love Lush’s bath bombs, they make your bath smell amazing and gives you silky skin. My favorite is the Butterball because of it’s vanilla scent. Find what scent really relaxes you and fill your bath with products scented that way, it will make all the difference.

Screen Shot 2015-09-07 at 4.49.18 PM

After the bath, I moisturize with¬†Keihl’s Creme de Corps Whipped Body Butter¬†leaving my skin hydrated and beautiful. I then curl up with my book and a nice cup of tea. The one I’ve been loving lately is the¬†Get Lost Tea by Republic of Teas¬†its got a lovely cinnamon flavor that isn’t overpowering and I can’t get enough of it.

Screen Shot 2015-09-07 at 5.21.39 PM

Next, I do these three things weekly to feel fresh. I apply the¬†Flower and Tonic Mask by Mario Badescu,¬†it’s a very gentle mask that cleans out your pores and soothes your skin. After a weekend filled with lots of travel and maybe sleeping with your makeup on, this is the perfect way to cleanse my skin. Then I paint my nails for the week and whiten my teeth. I recently purchased the Sally Hansen Miracle Gel set and have loved the color Creme de la Creme, it’s a very pale pink that’s almost white and has a nice shimmer to it. My go-to teeth whitener is¬†Dr. George’s Dental White Gel, honestly it works miracles, after using it for just 15 minutes my teeth are noticeably whiter.

Screen Shot 2015-09-07 at 5.22.52 PM

Sometimes I do a Coconut oil hair mask – just apply heated coconut oil to your hair and leave on for at least a half hour. It’ll give your hair more shine and repair damages. And it smells great!

Daily Makeup Routine for the Office!

makeup

Lorac Mega Prop Palette // Sephora Bronzer // Clinique Mineral Powder // NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer // Revlon Colorburst Lacquer Balm //NYX Powder Blush // Rimmel Fix and Perfect Base //Benefit thePOREfessional // Clinique Pore Refining Instant Perfecting Makeup // NYX Eyeshadow Base // Beauty Blender

This makeup routine is pretty much what I’ve been doing everyday for the past year¬†– only really substituting out a few products. When you find products you love, especially ones that can last through the workday and still look great for drinks afterwards, you should stick with it. Some of these products I have been loyal to for even longer than the past year and have lasted me up to 3 years, which sells me on any product because it saves you money!

The mineral powder from Clinique is no longer sold loose (which is what I have – purchased 5 years ago) but it still comes in pressed form! Its a redness solution powder which is what makes me really love it, I don’t necessarily get acne per se, but I do have the occasional spot and when I finish my makeup with this powder it just adds the finishing touch to concealing the spot and keeps you matte all day long. The Sephora bronzer I’ve had for about 4 years and it hasn’t run out, I love it, it does have a little bit of shimmer so I use it sparingly. I love the color and it has a really creamy formulation, I own it in¬†the shade¬†Anguilla.

As far as primers go, I have used the POREfessional from Benefit for the past year and don’t think I can live without it in my makeup routine, it really is worth all the hype! It not only smooths out your skin but it absorbs any oil and leaves your skin baby soft. I pair it with the Rimmel primer to give my skin a little bit more moisture so it has a more dewy look throughout the day.

My foundation, the Pore Refining Instant Perfecting Makeup (I know – it’s quite the name) has been a savior for my skin since I discovered it last summer. I was looking for a foundation to make my pores look smaller and also last all day without settling. I had also recently realized the wrinkles on my forehead and was looking for anything that could smooth out my skin! After researching and trying a bunch of samples I purchased this one, it’s only sold at Clinique counters and they don’t keep a lot in stock at a time. Personally, it seems that people just haven’t tried this out and that’s why they haven’t discovered its magical powers! It just has the ability to give me perfect skin without looking like I’m really wearing makeup, and that its EXACTLY what I want for an everyday foundation. For concealer I use the cult-favorite NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer (shade: Custard) , it’s so buttery and covers all my blemishes, I’m on the hunt for a cheaper alternative but as for now nothing compares. The best way I’ve found to blend my concealer and foundation is using a damp beauty blender, it gives you a flawless look!

eyeliner

Kat Von D Tattoo Liner

For my eyes I go natural but still incorporating a little but of shimmer, because well, I just can’t resist. I use the LORAC Mega Pro Palette everyday for all my eye shadow needs. For a day at work I normally do just a little bit of champagne shimmer all over my lid and then a light brown in the crease. Then I use my Kat Von D Tattoo Liner in Trooper aka Black, which is the ONLY liner I’ve found to last all day and never falter. I finish off my eyes with my Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara. Lastly, I swipe on my Revlon Lacquer balm in Demure, the perfect everyday nude and i’m out the door!

Do you have any suggestions of products that last through the work day? Comment and tell me!

Product Spotlight: Clinique Take the Day Off Cleansing Balm

Cleansing Balm

When this came out a year ago I was DYING to get my hands on it and try it out, I had used cleansing oils before and really like them but something about this just seemed easier to use and intriguing. However, because it was a little pricey – for a broke college student, I decided to wait to try it.

After purchasing it at the beginning of this summer I can say that it’s honestly as amazing as everyone says it is! Much like a cleansing oil in effectiveness but I have an easier time using it because it’s not slipping through my fingers when I transfer it to my face. The consistency freaked me out a little when I first started using it because its literally an equivalent to Crisco but it actually works beautifully.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

This product is easily an all in one essential that I would recommend to add to anyone’s skincare routine, it eliminates the need for cleaners! I have sensitive skin, that’s acne prone and my skin has never broken out from this product. I also tend to get oil build up and since using this have noticed my face isn’t as oily throughout the day – my skin has just responded so positively to this product I cannot think of using anything else to remove my makeup and cleanse my skin! It’s like every lazy girls dream! You just take a dab in your hand massage it on your eyes and face and bam – you’re done!

The Perfect Pink?

The Perfect Pink?

Is there really such a thing? Ive tried many a pinks and still struggle with which hue is exactly that go-to pink, the one you can wear year round no problem. My two personal favorites are Essie’s Muchi Muchi and Fiji. I like my pink to be pretty opaque where as I know tons of girls that¬†like there to be a very pale pink where it almost looks like just your nail. But for me, I think it has a little more substance when it’s really a pop of pink, but still a nice baby pink. Let me know what your favorite pink is!
